First Aid International will be holding its first international conference on the 3 April this year. This conference will be hosted by Life Connections 2009 at the Kettering Conference Centre in Northamptonshire. A full exhibition will also be available throughout the day for First Aid International Instructors and Centre Coordinators.

Registration for the FAI Conference is restricted to FAI Instructors and Centre coordinators. Only renewed instructors and centres are eligible for registration.

ILCOR presents a universal AED sign

On September 19th 2008 R.W.Koster wrote the following letter to the ILCOR councils, National Resuscitation Councils, AED manufacturers, public and governmental organisations.

I am pleased to inform you that The International Liaison Committee on Resuscitation (ILCOR) has unanimous approved the proposal of the ILCOR Task Force for a universal sign indicating the presence of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED). The sign is designed in accordance with ISO 7010 for safety signs and shape. Colours and existing symbols are in accordance with ISO 3864-3. Its comprehensibility has been tested in accordance with ISO 9186-1, rev. 2007 and proved superior to alternative designs.

Watch Your Own Heart Attack

The British Heart Foundation has recently published a 2-minute video entitled 'Watch Your Own Heart Attack'. This is aimed at raising people's awareness of the risks of heart attacks and SCA.

Here's some sad statistics:
245 first loves die from a heart attack every day
85 Mothers die from a heart attack every day
94 Fathers die from a heart attack every day
Sadly, one in three heart attack victims die before they reach hospital.

ERC Resuscitation Congress and Exhibition 2008

First Aid International staff will be attending the ERC Resuscitation 2008 which is to be held in Ghent, Belgium. The Congress will evaluate the implementation of the Guidelines 2005 and you will be involved in the process leading to the 2010 Consensus on Science.

Chest compression-only CPR

On 31/03/2008, the American Heart Association (AHA) issued a statement recommending that bystanders who witness the sudden collapse of an adult should give chest compressions without ventilations, so-called hands-only CPR.
