The Paediatric First Aid course is designed to train individuals to
provide immediate first aid care for infants and children. This course also includes adult essential skills in basic life support as they differ from the skills of the infant and child.

This course meets the first aid requirements of Ofsted for the Early Years Foundation Stage standards, the National Childminding Association, the Pre-School Learning Alliance, and the Department for Children, Schools and Families Surestart guidelines for Paediatric First Aid.

This course will provide first aid skills necessary to manage an infant or child that is not breathing normally, is unconscious, bleeding or is ill or injured prior to the arrival of the emergency services.

The Paediatric First Aid course which includes adult basic life support skills also meets the recommendations of the HSE Health and Safety at Work (1981) Regulations for Appointed Persons in the Workplace. This course also meets the first aid requirements of the Department for Children, Schools and Families for First Aid in Schools.

Students are assessed throughout the course by instructor observation of the essential skills. There is also a summative assessment of knowledge and skills at the end of this course.
